Start the New Year on the Trail
Published: December 17, 2025
Catawba County Parks invites the community to kick off the New Year outdoors with a series of ranger-led hikes on Thursday, January 1, 2026. These guided hikes offer a refreshing way to welcome the year with fresh air, gentle exercise, and scenic winter views at some of the county’s most popular parks.
Participants may choose from three hike options throughout the day:
- Bakers Mountain Park at 10:00 a.m.
- Riverbend Park at 12:00 p.m.
- Mountain Creek Park at 2:00 p.m.
Each hike will be approximately two miles in length and led by a Catawba County Parks ranger, providing a relaxed pace suitable for all ages. The hikes are free and open to the public, and no registration is required. Participants should plan to meet at the park office at their chosen location prior to the start of the hike. Park addresses and directions are available on the Catawba County Parks website.
“Beginning the year with a hike is a great way to reconnect with nature and set a positive tone for the months ahead,” said Catawba County Parks Director David Wagg. “Winter is a beautiful time to explore our parks, and our rangers look forward to sharing these experiences with the community.”
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable hiking boots and dress for the weather.
